Sōng Atelier

Suzhou · est. 2014

Hand-finished knitwear on century-old gauges.

Provenance

Sōng Atelier runs eleven hand-flat knitting machines, the oldest of which was built in 1948 and is still the only one permitted to make the shoulder saddles.

The studio buys undyed cashmere in Inner Mongolia and dyes to order in lots of under forty pieces, which is why the greys never quite match between seasons. Customers have started collecting the variation deliberately.

Everything is linked by hand at the shoulder and cuff. A single jumper takes just under nine hours, and the atelier has never taken a wholesale order it could not finish itself.

Where they are now

Sōng opened a by-appointment showroom in London's Bloomsbury in 2025 and has begun taking bespoke commissions. Its LePont listing remains the label's only route to continental Europe.
